I'm sure we'll learn some new things as a result of Dale's NCA panel on accreditation.
In reviewing the above messages, I see strong sentiment in favor of our efforts in the area of accreditation, however, I do not see a proposal for a specific new course of action.
As I recall, it's Paul, Ann, and Dale who have put forth heroic efforts in this area. If they have specific recommendations to put before us, chances are I'd defer to their judgments.

I don't think I'd count myself in the heroic category. That would be Ann and Paul, who have actually created an accreditation program.
Defering to their wishes is not enough. The administrative and public relations efforts that are now required to make accreditation a reality are NOT insignificant. I think ACA has deferred to Ann and Paul to the point that no one else has any sense of responsibility for the accreditation effort.
I figured I could help with some exposure at NCA, since I'll be there anyway, but that is only one tiny political step.
The real need now is to encourage departments of communication to stand for (and receive) accreditation. This is far beyond what Ann and Paul could do alone, even if they hadn't both moved into new positions that disallow the kind of intensive effort they have previously spent on the program.
I would recommend the creation of an accreditation team/board/pod/committee/directorate with the mandate to create a professional marketing effort....that is one that doesn't rely on BOD members strong-arming their friends or department heads. This should include three people who a) don't already have major responsibilities (like being officers, webmasters and the like) and b) have some professional communication expertise.....someone like so many of those ACA members we continue to ignore!
I'm sorry. I'm getting snippy.

I agree with the marketing team idea -- new BOD people, or existing people without a specific job, please consider volunteering for this publicity team.
