Hello Everyone. First let me say that I'm honored to be ACA's next webmaster. During our week-long online meeting, I'll be submitting a number of questions regarding basic and complex issues that involve our web presence. Please respond to any and all that interest you. At the end of our board meeting, I will begin making site changes based on BoD consensus on these issues.

Thanks,
Phil

What exactly is the issue we're addressing with Web page revision/updating?

I've put together a fairly long list of major and minor items -- some requiring a fair amount of exposition to explain. I cannot seem to find a way to create a subtopic in this thread for each one like on a threaded discussion list, so my post will be rather large. If anyone has an idea about how to manage the multiple issues, I'm game. Else, I guess the best way would be to submit a long post with numbered items. Then everyone can reply by number to any and all items that interest them. I'll check back in this afternoon. If there are any posting suggestions -- or if this is the best option -- I'll post my items then for everyone's review.

You're right, multiple issues are too unwieldy in a single thread. I've created a new forum for web redesign, you should be able to start a new thread for each separate issue there. Once you've created them, maybe email us a link so nobody gets lost? Thanks, Jon

Thanks, Jon for creating a separate forum for the individual website issues. Everyone, the address is http://americancomm.proboards36.com/index.cgi?board=www . Please go to that forum to discuss the topics relating to the website. (We can also add additional ones if anyone has a website issue they would like to add.

I will email and post into this forum links to the individual topics once created.
Phil

Website revision topic threads have been created in the new forum that Jon created. (Thanks, Jon.) Please review them and jump in and offer your feedback and insight on that forum. (Please do not post recommendations on this thread of the current forum.) They issues/links are:

I’ll be happy to add any more threads if discussion warrants.

If any of the links above are incorrect, the link to the forum as a whole is http://americancomm.proboards36.com/index.cgi?board=www

Thanks,
Phil

Our week-long meeting is fast coming to a close, please drop in on the parallel forum about the website (http://americancomm.proboards36.com/index.cgi?board=www) to offer your feedback on any of the topics under discussion.

I've found out that if you log on to the "general" board page (http://americancomm.proboards36.com/index.cgi#general) you can see if any new posts have been made to either of these forums. If so the sphere will be blue instead of gray.

Thanks,
Phil

Hello All:

Based on discussions on the board list and the forums, theses are the planned changes for the website:

  • A convention section will be created with sections addressing: paper/panel calls, fees/registration, hotel reservations, airline/hotel discounts, featured speakers, workshops, conference schedule, and info about Lima Peru. As confirmed information is received, it will be posted. Ann will provide a human translation of the call into Spanish, which I will post. The remainder of the site will be structure so that it can be searched through a Google machine translation.
  • The following sections will be shut down until the BoD decides to bring them back: Academic Position Listings, Teaching Awards, Research Awards, Service Awards, Personals Page, ACA News (currently accessible via the conference jpg).
  • The Board of Directors page will be updated. The only personnel change I have as of now are a) adding Aldo to the board, and b) changing Katharine’s name. If there are any additional personnel changers, please let me know and I’ll make those. Additional changes to the BoD page include wording “protect the ACA by-laws”.
  • The Officers (under the “contact aca” page) will be updated as follows.
    President: Ty Adams
    Past –President: James Owen
    VP – Ann Rosenthal
    Webmaster – Phil Auter
All other officers will remain the same. If there are any necessary changes re: contact information, etc. Please let me know.
  • A Listserv Page will be created that will consolidate all the lists and forums that ACA is involved with. All currently active ACA lists – including the BoD forum pages – will be accessible from the page. Recent news will be posted here as well.
  • I will modify the ACA Rules based on our listserv discussion to change the officers appointments from beginning of fiscal year (Nov 1) to July 1.
I will post the call for a new editor after the ad hoc committee has finalized it. (It’s almost done.)

Anyone who would like to update information on a page they are managing (CSC pages, accreditation, etc.), just send me your page update and I’ll upload it. Or send me the necessary changes and I will make those and upload them.

Thanks,
Phil
